Plugins

Plugins

WordPress e-commerce pluginWidgets aren’t the only plugins that you can get for WordPress. Plugins can also vastly extend the function of your website. BuddyPress is a free plugin that creates a social network complete with an activity stream, groups and forums. There are plugins for a photo gallery, and even for turning your website into an e-commerce site. And if you wish to rank as high as possible in the search engines I highly recommend installing a plugin for SEO (search engine optimization) before you go crazy adding Pages and Posts. The SEO plugins that I have used will give you a form to fill out when adding Pages and Posts, asking for SEO titles, descriptions, keywords, etc.. There is no magic plugin that will put your website in the number one spot on Google. You need to do SEO research and learn how to optimize your content for search engines. A plugin will help you to apply the techniques that you learn.

Where to find plugins

WordPress.org has a directory of plugins. If you look in the right hand column of this website, you’ll see a list of plugins that I’ve used on this site.

If you’re looking for plugins for a particular industry, such as a site for classified ads, cars for sale, real estate, even coupons, there are some themes that come complete with the plugins.
